PILOT: FRANKFURT GROUND, LUFTHANSA 415, ONE OF THE PASSENGERS HAS CARRIED ON A DANGEROUS GOOD THAT IS ONLY ALLOWED ON CARGO PLANES, WE REQUEST TO RETURN TO THE GATE.
ATC: LUFTHANSA 415, ROGER, CLEARED TO TAXI TO GATE 1 VIA TAXIWAY ALPHA

The pilot contacted Frankfurt ground and reported that a passenger had carried dangerous goods on-board and the goods were only allowed on cargo planes and requested to return to the gate. The controller cleared lufthansa 415 to return to the gate via taxiway alpha.
EXAMINER: What types of dangerous goods can an airplane carry and what are their risks?
Lithium batteries, alcohol and oxygen cylinders are three types of dangerous goods that can be carried on board.
Batteries can start fire and the liquid inside the battery can damage the structure of the aircraft. Oxygen cylinders can explode and as alcohol is flamable it can also cause a fire.

PILOT: PANPAN, PANPAN, PANPAN, DUBAI CONTROL, ETIHAD 57 WE HAVE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE IN THE COCKPIT, WE DISCONNECTED GENERATOR TWO, AND LOST NAVIGATION ACCURACY.
ATC: ETIHAD 57, ROGER , TURN LEFT HEADING ZERO SEVEN ZERO, VECTORS FOR THE VISUAL APPROACH, RUNWAY THREE ZERO RIGHT.

The pilot declared urgency to Dubai control as they had an electrical fire in the cockpit, they said that they disconnected generator 2 and lost navigation accuracy and requested vectors to return. The controller cleared Etihad 57 to turn left heading zero seven zero and vectors for visual approach to runway three zero right.
EXAMINER: What can cause an electrical fire and what are its consequences?
An electrical fire can be caused by a short circuit or an electrical system overload, as a consequence it can cause severe damage to the aircraft or even a disaster as it can cause the pilots to pass out and loose control of the aircraft.
EXAMINER: Now listen situation number 3.
PILOT: MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MADAY. PARIS CONTROL, AMERICAN 5152, WE ARE DESCENDING FROM FLIGHT LEVEL TWO NINER ZERO TO ONE ZERO ZERO, DUE TO A DEPRESSURIZATION.
ATC: AMERICAN 5152, ROGER FLY HEADING ZERO NINER ZERO, REPORT WHEN REACHING FLIGHT LEVEL ONE ZERO ZERO.

The pilot of American 5152 declared an emergency to Paris control and informed that they were descending from flight level two niner zero to one zero zero due to a depressurization. The controller cleared American 5152 to fly heading zero niner zero and to report when reaching flight level one zero zero.
EXAMINER: What can cause a depressurization?
A depressurization can be caused by a pressure leak caused by a hole in the fuselage an engine failure or a pressurization system failure.
EXAMINER: Now, considering the three situations you have heard in part three: How would you compare them? You may want to compare them in terms of severity, possible solutions and ways of prevention. Which one do you think is the most difficult to deal with? Why?
In my opinion, dangerous goods on-board is not so serious.
The third situation which was a depressurization is worse than dangerous goods as it’s an emergency and the pilots must react quickly.
But the second situation which was an electrical fire in the cockpit is the worst situation as the consequences can be deadly, it can cause poor visibility or even intoxication so the pilots must react immediately.
